i can't find my phone *anywhere* to call them. I *suspect* it was until 6, but I don't know, and I'm having you know, one of those Christmas Eve cravings for 4 12-packs of diet coke for $10.
mbta website not giving any helpful info (just 5-10 minute delay due to switching problem, last updated at 825am)... nothing on boston.com.... anyone know if the redline is delayed? hubby left work 3 hours ago to pick up our sick kiddo, and his phone is still going straight to voicemail, which usually only happens when it is off or when he is underground on the train... anyone recently on the redline (heading towards davis) who could report on how it's running?
Thanks for indulging the stuck at work, paranoid mother.

Some years ago, sitting in egregious traffic on Christmas Eve, I happened to find a radio station that was playing nothing but "Silent Night" for the whole day. It amused the hell out of my husband and me for a good long time. (The Japanese Girl band techno fusion version remains my favorite.)
I have looked, sporadically, since then for the radio station. I think it was a college station? It was definitely very local -- we lost it once we were much past Wellesley. Since all of my usual radio listening is NPR, I don't even know where to start and was hoping to appeal to the collective wisdom of the Davis Sq. community.
Of course, it could be that it was something that station did only once, or that a bored DJ did, but I really hope it's an annual event. I'd love to listen to it tomorrow as I start baking my 8 batches of cookies!
I was walking by today and saw a construction permit (or perhaps application for a permit?) for a "lounge" in the window of the former Bowl and Board. Anyone know anything? I love my drinking and my Davis, but I wonder what our carrying capacity for bars is.
Does any one know if any of the multiple food stores in the square have fresh figs? Daves, McKinnons, or Farmer's Bounty? It's kind of cold for me to wander out with the little one just to look, so if anyone knows for sure, it would be helpful.... (I did check Pemberton's when i was out earlier)
this year my in-laws feel lazy, so we are planning to stay at my place or in the area on the 25th, maybe go out for dinner and a movie.
anyone know of any local restaurants that will be open? howzabout places that deliver in davis on that day?
happy day-when-most-businesses-are-closed to everyone :)
ETA thanks for everyone's advice! it turns out we are also having an out-of-town guest who loves clam chowder, so we're going all the way to kendall for legal seafood, which also happens to be open :)

So I know that the Red Line from Harvard to Davis was completely screwed, with shuttling going on, but I'm wondering if anybody had issues with buses from Davis just... not coming? Specifically the 88.
We waited for an 88 heading to Lechmere with a young woman who had apparently just missed the last one, and we stuck around ten minutes past the arrival date (courtesy of mbta.com) of the 88 at Highland and School and then finally just took a cab. Returning at the end of our evening, ten minutes past the show-date for an 88 heading to Clarendon from Lechemere, we saw an 80 and took that instead. We texted a friend and there was nothing on the web site during that time about bus-fail.
